Article: On the analytical calculation of the solar heat gain coefficient of a BIPV module

This open access peer-reviewed article describes a new analytical calculation method to characterise the solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of glass-glass photovoltaic modules for building integration. The proposed simplified calculations avoid the need for complex iterative procedures to solve the non-linear equations of the thermal balance and allow the use of standardized or design values for the involved physical parameters. The paper is authored by T.Baenas and M.Machado and was published in Energy and Buildings 151 (2017) 146-156. It can also be read online

Report: Energy audit of PVSITES demonstration buildings and identification of BIPV possibilities

Report: Energy audit of PVSITES demonstration buildings and identification of BIPV possibilities

For each demonstration site this report provides a description, a pre-audit of energy usage, and a pre-dimensioning for the BIPV systems and energy storages to be installed. Electricity production estimates are provided. The pre-dimensioning phase considers several installation configurations and proposes a preferred layout. This work is to be considered preliminary with changes likely to occur before real-life implementation.

Report: Recommendations on storage systems for BIPV systems

Report: Recommendations on storage systems for BIPV systems

This document presents available battery technologies and their testing in order to choose the most suitable for BIPV applications. The tested batteries are aqueous sodium-ion, lithium-ion, and Li-ion LFP/LTO batteries. Using the IEC 61427-2 clause 6.5 standard, lithium-ion LFP/ G batteries are preferred for BIPV applications since they provide higher energy densities than LFP/LTO and Aquion batteries, and higher efficiency than Aquion batteries.

Report: Common monitoring guidelines for the demonstration sites

Report: Common monitoring guidelines for the demonstration sites

This document describes the monitoring guidelines that are to be followed by each pilot site of the PVSITES project in terms of measurement to be conducted. Monitoring is needed to evaluate the impact of the BIPV technologies on the performance of the buildings or a portion of the buildings in terms of energy consumptions and indoor conditions, and to assess the performances of the implemented BIPV technologies themselves.

Report: Prototypes of framing systems compatible with XL format and large thickness BIPV units

The main content of this deliverable is divided in three main points: First of all, several existing commercial framing systems compatible with XL BIPV are analyzed in terms of architectural design and mechanical characterization. Secondly, a selection of framing options for curtain wall/skylights and façades are further studied in terms of design, hidden wiring strategies and mechanical analysis. Final sections of this deliverable include a cost analysis and the description of prototypes to be tested within the scope of Task 3.7 (Indoor Validation Testing).
